This past weekend, we had the wonderful opportunity to film and experience the rich traditions of a Chaldean wedding when Gina Kalabat and her fiance, Francis Garmo, were married at St Thomas Chaldean Church in West Bloomfield. The wedding was officiated by Father Pierre Konja.

This was such a moving evening as we watched the multi-generation tight knit family of both the groom and bride come together and celebrate with their unique faith-based traditions that date back centuries.

We are certain this will add a wonderful dimension and understanding about our Iraqi Christian Chaldean community here in Detroit, which is the largest in the world outside of Iraq.

As part of this very important story, we will learn about the Chaldean migration to Detroit which flourished during the automobile boom in the early 1910s.

Our film, Detroit: The City of Faith will debut on Detroit Public Television on March 22nd at 8:00pm.
